Schnyder SA History

The company was founded during the war year of 1944 by Mr. Karl Schnyder, Ing. HTL. Our first product was so called Pinion hobs for the watch industry. In 1946 the company was incorporated as K. Schnyder-Liechti AG. 1955 was an important milestone with the building of our own factory, office and apartment building at Jakobstrasse 56. In 1957 we ground our first Carbide on our Studer PSM machine. In 1961 the son Hanspeter Schnyder joined his fathers company. In 1962 the first relief ground hob was shipped. In 1963 company co-founder Gottlieb Liechti died. The 1972 watch crisis and the resulting weak demand for small hobs forces the company to expand into new markets such as automotive, aeronautic components and power tools. The factory at Jakobstrasse 56 was also enlarged. In 1976 the first carbide hobs were TiN coated. In 1977 company founder Karl Schnyder passed away unexpectely and HP Schnyder took over the leadership. In 1980 we expanded our product line to include shaper cutters. In 1987 we installed our first NC controlled sharpening machine. In 1990 we installed a Klingelnberg CNC measuring machine in our quality control department. In 1993 we took over the Mikron hob manufacturing department. In 1996 Schnyder SA decided to design and build our own CNC controlled grinding machines. 1998: Purchase and move to new building at Jakobstrasse 52. 1999: Introduction of our new database system, FIS. 2001: Son, Marc Schnyder took over as Managing Director from HP Schnyder.
